31st May to 1st June, 2008 – Isles of Mull and Staffa

Sunday

We awoke on the Sunday to more glorious sunshine but as the only boat trip available was a 4 hour one which we thought too long, we headed on a very circuitous route towards Fionnphort and got ourselves on to a boat trip to Staffa. This proved really lucky as not only did we get to see Staffa, which in itself was good but we also got up pretty close to some basking sharks (truly amazing), watched another otter squirming about in the seaweed and chatted with some puffins who appeared out of a burrow right beside us.

After this there was no time for going to Erraid before out ferry back to Oban but no matter, it will be there next time and hopefully next time will be sooner rather than later.

A walk up Ben Tirran in Glen Clova and though quite cold and frosty with little visibility high up, the place itself has whetted the appetite for a repeat visit in summer. A lot of deer were about on the hill side and bounding white hares added interest to the walk too.
